This special exhibition of more than 50 incomparable works of late Roman and early Byzantine art were lent by the British Museum. It’s located in the Art Institute’s new Mary and Michael Jaharis Galleries of Greek, Roman, and Byzantine Art, which opened on Nov. 11, 2012. Late Roman and Early Byzantine Treasures from the British Museum features luxurious yet portable items such as silver vessels, carved ivories, and gem-encrusted jewelry, reflecting wealthy households and important ecclesiastical sites between A.D. 350 and 650.
