The Carlton Inn Midway provides accommodations to a wide range of McCormick Place attendees and exhibitors. Typically our guests fly into Chicago’s Midway Airport or drive-in from points across the Midwest. From groups of employees to independent sales representatives, our competitive advantages are apparent to our guests.

Our hotel provides free Chicago Midway Airport pickups on our shuttle. And, free parking to those driving in. For groups of 5 or more we can arrange a daily complimentary ride to and from McCormick Place on our hotel shuttle van with advance notice.  This is based upon management approval, and is good for one morning drop off and one evening pick up, together as a group.  If you are traveling alone, ask our hotel staff to call for a cab, which will reliably transport you to McCormick Place.

Our hotel is located just 7.9 miles from Chicago's McCormick Place, which takes just 9 minutes on a low-traffic I-55. If you need to travel during high traffic times, you can opt for the low-traffic route on Archer Avenue, which is just 7.2 miles and takes 18 minutes (according to Google Maps). Guest feedback tells us that the Archer route is never longer than 30 minutes even when the Chicago highways are at gridlock- so there are no worries about delays to your morning arrival at the McCormick Place campus.

 

Carlton Inn Midway is the ONLY Chicago Midway Airport hotel to be walking distance from the CTA Elevated Train, which connects to downtown in just 20 minutes.   You can also use the CTA train/bus combo to get to McCormick Place for just a few dollars.  Or for a just a few dollars more you can choose the quicker CTA train and cab combo. 

 

The CTA Orange Line L Train allows you to have dinner downtown and enjoy a quick, easy, and inexpensive train ride back to the hotel. We’ll even send our shuttle van to pick you up at the station to save your tired feet.

McCormick Place is the premier convention facility of North America. It is located just 10 minutes from downtown Chicago, Illinois (IL) and is 9-30 minutes from the Carlton Inn Midway depending upon your choice of transportation and the time of day.   McCormick Place attracts 3 million visitors each year. McCormick Place is consists of four state-of-the-art buildings: the North & South Buildings, the West Building and the Lakeside Center. Together, they dominate the entire convention and tradeshow industry in North America. 

The size of McCormick Place is impressive:

An expansive series of sky bridges and pedestrian promenades link the whole campus. The Grand Concourse that connects many of these spaces is the location for retail shops, restaurants, cafes and other visitor amenities.

The Hyatt Regency McCormick Place is the only hotel connected to McCormick Place.   As of summer 2010 typical convention room rates at this Hyatt are in the $359-439 range. Parking charges are $38 per day (in/out).  It is a great choice if your pockets are really deep or you are not concerned with ROI.

Interesting side note: in researching the data on this page we came across mentions of difficulty on user's parts in finding hotels close to the convention center.  One of the most common user errors is that people were misspelling the center's name as McCormack Place, they spaced the words out like Mc Cormick Place, or they spelt it like this: McCormik Place.  They even refer to it as McCormicks Place or McKormick Place.  We hope everyone finds what they are looking for, and that they all have a safe and enjoyable time here in our beloved city.
