See comedian Demetri Martin live April 1 at UP Comedy Club! He’ll be on his Point Your Face At This Tour, featuring a mix of stand-up and material from his new book, POINT YOUR FACE AT THIS.

Demetri Martin rose to relative obscurity when he started doing stand-up comedy in New York City at the end of the 20^th Century. Later he became a writer at Late Night with Conan O’Brien and then a regular performer on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.

Sigur Rós are thrilled to announce their biggest North American tour to date this
spring. The trek, which includes a headlining show at New York City’s prestigious Madison Square Garden, will be the most expansive Sigur Rós live experience yet.

The band recently debuted a new song, “Brennisteinn,” at this year’s Iceland Airwaves Festival.

Childhood friends Ritzy Bryan and bassist Rhydian Dafydd originally played together as part of Manchester band Tricky Nixon, which later reformed into Sidecar Kisses. After Sidecar Kisses split up in 2007 they regrouped, returning to their Welsh home town of Mold, and formed The Joy Formidable with Justin Stahley on drums. In July 2008 they released their first official single, “Austere”, followed by a Christmas single, “My Beerdrunk Soul Is Sadder than a Hundred Dead Christmas Trees”, as a 2008 digital download, and the “Cradle” double 7″ in 2009. In January 2009 their self-released debut EP, A Balloon Called Moaning, was issued in the UK.

This special exhibit features six monumentally-scaled murals painted in 1939-42 by African American artist Hale Woodruff. Works in Rising Up: Hale Woodruff’s Murals at Talladega College are newly restored to their original, vibrant colors and are accompanied by paintings and prints that document Woodruff’s work.

The Renaissance Society presents a solo exhibition by local-based artist John Neff. It’ll feature sculptures, photographic images and collages that meditate on the processes of making and transforming meaning through material contact, the experience of the body, and the mediating mechanisms of technology.

This featured exhibit at the National Veterans Art Museum addresses how a female perspective can fit into the modern context of turmoil and conflict. It features contemporary art by Iraqi women to deliberately explore and challenge expectations.

Over 250 of the finest examples of the Art Institute’s collection of Picasso’s paintings, sculpture, prints, and drawings as well as major loans from private collections in the city will be on display. This exhibition will coincide with the centennial of the Armory Show at AIC, the first major exhibition of avant-garde European art presented in the U.S. and the first time Picasso’s works were displayed in an American museum.
