eighth blackbird: heart and breath

Chicago’s acclaimed eighth blackbird returns to MCA Stage with a concert about love and death, performed in the Venetian commedia dell’arte theater style. The musicians play, speak, sing, and mime in this contemporary adaptation of one of the earliest dark comedies, first performed in the early 1600s. Scored and adapted from the original poem by Amy Beth Kirsten, it is directed by Mark DeChiazza, and commissioned by the MCA. The program also features a set of love songs through the ages, from Baroque masterworks by Monteverdi and Gesualdo, to songs by Bon Iver and Richard Reed Parry.
