From February 20, 2014 – February 23, 2014
Up-and-coming choreographer Kyle Abraham, born into the hip-hop culture of 1970’s Pittsburgh, often draws from his life and his hometown for his dance works. In The Radio Show, he draws upon two seminal events: the abrupt closing of a favorite radio station and the slow communication breakdown as a family member suffers from Alzheimer’s and aphasia. Abraham selects an eclectic score that mixes classic soul, hip-hop, R & B, call-in radio excerpts, and experimental music by Ryoji Ikeda and Alva Noto. Created in collaboration with the dancers of his Abraham.in.Motion company, the work features six dancers including Abraham.
